Only Make Believe offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals looking for a way to make a difference and get more involved with our programs.  As an OMB Volunteer, you can join in a group activity or even participate from home!  You can help us at one of our sites or organize an OMB event in your own community.  Read on for all the exciting opportunities and what it means to be an OMB Volunteer!

Monthly Costume Collective

Great for people on the go who want to make a difference!

At each show, all of the audience members – from children to adults – are invited to get into costume!  Help us build costume pieces, backdrops, and props to stuff our trunks. We're looking for individuals of all skill levels to join our bimonthly collective.  All you need are gluing talent and an imagination!  Basic sewing skills are also a plus! This event meets the first Wednesday of every month from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at the OMB office located at 1133 Broadway, Suite 723.  If you are interested in joining our next Costume Collective, please e-mail Volunteer Manager Melissa Moschitto at mmoschitto@onlymakebelieve.org.

Cape Crusade

A volunteer opportunity that works around your schedule.

Cast Party

Organize a small group of friends and colleagues to host this fun one-off event!

Only Make Believe visits each hospital site for six weeks and towards the end of our stay we love to celebrate with the help of volunteers who host a Cast Party.  Your group of 5 to 15 volunteers help to decorate the playroom or performance area and then participate in the final show by helping the kids dress up and take part in the performance. After the show, the volunteers organize snacks along with a temporary tattoo area and/or face painting area and hand out goody bags.  (Please be aware that our sites have age restrictions; this opportunity is for volunteers age 18+).  This event includes a fee to cover materials. Only Make Believe Buddy

Serve as an OMB representative at hospital sites during performance times.

Sometimes a child needs a helping hand during a performance or a caring person to give them a little extra attention. Join OMB actors on-site to help dress children in costumes, assist hospital staff in bringing kids to the workshop and brighten a child’s day .  This volunteer position requires a commitment of two hours per week for six weeks, most often during business hours.   (Please be aware that our sites have age restrictions; this opportunity is for volunteers age 18+).  If you would like more information or would like to apply, please e-mail Volunteer Manager Melissa Moschitto at mmoschitto@onlymakebelieve.org.  We are especially interested in Buddies who live in or can travel to the Bronx.  

Host Your Own Only Make Believe Event

Get your community involved in making a difference!

You can support Only Make Believe by creating your very own Only Make Believe fundraising event. Host a casual-dress day, a bake sale, a costume competition or a movie marathon and donate the proceeds to OMB.  Our VIP Program (Volunteer Initiatied Philanthropy) is designed to give you all the tools you need to host your own fundraiser.  The VIP program is perfect for individuals, sororities and fraternities, academic societies, sports teams, book clubs, neighborhood groups and more!
