Dena has worked as a volunteer in NYC hospitals for over 15 years, and in 2003 received the United Hospital Funds New Leadership Group’s Humanitarian Award. She is President of James Hammerstein Productions and has recently produced Enron and Superior Donuts on Broadway and Our Town off-Broadway. Other producing credits include Seagull (Broadway), Dealer’s Choice (London’s West End), Slut (Off-Broadway), My Name Is Rachel Corrie, Dirty Blonde, Sunday in the Park with George, and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.
Kate is the New York representative for Act IV, an arts and charity fundraising consultancy based in London (activ.org.uk). From 2004 to 2009 she worked at Only Make Believe as the Creative Director and then Executive Director. Prior to OMB, she was an actor, teaching artist and administrator. She is a yoga teacher studying to become a certified yoga therapist, and hopes to bring yoga to children in hospital to enhance their healing in much the same way Only Make Believe does.
Joe has been a board member since 2000. He is a playwright and probably best known for writing the book and lyrics to I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, the longest-running revue in New York history. Other works include the hit musical Memphis, co-written with Bon Jovi’s David Bryan, a much-produced comedy Over the River and Through the Woods, an Elvis Presley jukebox musical All Shook Up, and the Off-Broadway sensation The Toxic Avenger.
Cathy Lasry has dedicated much of the last decade to philanthropy and political causes with particular emphasis on education and women’s issues. Previously, Cathy has worked as an editor and is the author of several novels for adolescent girls. Cathy is a trustee of Clark University, her Alma mater, and sits on the Board of Overseers of the School Of Arts and Sciences at the University Of Pennsylvania. Cathy and her husband Marc live in New York City with their five children.
Sarah started volunteering with Only Make Believe in 2005 as a buddy at the Rusk Institute and joined the Board in 2009. Her diverse marketing and business background includes working in both the private and non-profit sectors, including owning a handbag company and developing the National Executive Service Corps’ first Seminar Series. Sarah grew up in Paris and Geneva and received her B.A. in Psychology and Art History from Cornell University.
Brian is the Founder and CEO of Incandescent Technologies, Inc, a global data management consultancy. Brian started Incandescent in 1999 to deliver innovative data and information management systems and to meet the growing demands for high performance technology solutions in the financial services industry. In addition to performing as an industry-leading data management solutions architect, Brian today leads the firm, overseeing day-to-day operations in sales, marketing, and finance. Brian also serves as a member of the Advisory Council for the NPower Technology Service Corps (npower.org).
SALLY WHEELER MAIER
Sally Wheeler Maier is an actor and producer in television, film and theater. Her company, Friend of a Friend Productions is engaged in the production of both documentary and narrative films. Ms. Maier is on the board of Wheeler Farms, Wheeler Companies, Boston Mining and Preservation of Natural Florida, and on the Board of Trustees at Queens University of Charlotte. She is a nationally ranked amateur competitor in the Arabian horse industry, and is an active volunteer with the children’s non-profit Brightening Birthdays as well as the PTA at her children’s schools. Sally lives with her husband Bill and their two young sons in New York City.
John Hardiman has practiced in Sullivan and Cromwell’s litigation department for almost 30 years, handling a wide array of litigation, arbitration and regulatory matters. Mr. Hardiman has led the Firm’s Merger and Acquisition-related litigation for a number of years, working on many high stakes contests for corporate control. He also has extensive experience handling regulatory investigations for the Firm’s broker-dealer and corporate clients, as well as standard commercial litigation. Mr. Hardiman joined the Only Make believe board in 2012.
Kim Martin, Co-founder and Executive Producer of Rock Shrimp Productions, has created and executive produced over 18 original culinary and lifestyle series, won two Emmy Awards for Best Culinary Series (Grill It! and Bobby Flay’s Barbecue Addiction) and been nominated twice for James Beard Awards (Alex’s Day Off and Brunch@Bobby’s). She also has a passion for docu-soap (Boss Nails, on Oxygen) and branded digital content such as the series for Hellmann’s and Fage as well as foodnetwork.com and Yahoo! Previously, Kim led development and was the Executive Producer at Dan Cohen & Sons, where she and Bobby created their first series together: Boy Meets Grill and Throwdown! She won a James Beard Award as Executive Producer for Bobby Flay: Chef Mentor. Kim also created and was Executive Producer of A Cook’s Tour with Anthony Bourdain and Mario Batali: Full Boil, as well as Co-Executive Producer of Dream Chasers for A+E Networks. Prior to that she was a producer, writer and director on series for networks such as CNN (People Profiles), E! (Fashion File), A+E (Biography) and CBS (Martha Stewart Living).
Ms. Beryl L. Snyder JD serves as a Principal, an attorney and businesswoman of HBJ LLC, a private investment company. From June 1, 1996 to August 1997, Ms. Snyder served as Vice President and General Counsel of Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. Ms. Synder served as Vice President of Biocraft Laboratories since May 1990 and its General Counsel since 1984 and Assistant Secretary since August 1993. She has been a Director of Dormitory Authority of the State of New York since June 15, 2011. She serves as Board member of the Beatrice Snyder Foundation. She served as Director of Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. from 1993 to May 31, 1996. She served as Director of Teva Pharmaceuticals. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Vassar College and a Juris Doctor degree from Rutgers University.
Sue has been involved with Only Make Believe since 2010 and joined the board in March 2012. Her entire 27 year career has been with UBS and its predecessor firm, PaineWebber in various positions including CAO of the Municipal Securities Group, COO of Wealth Management US, and her current role as Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer, UBS Group Americas. Sue holds a BA in Engineering Sciences from Dartmouth College and resides with her husband and two children in Westchester County, New York.
Jennifer Hammerstein is an original member of the Only Make Believe board. Her background is in documentaries and children’s radio and television production. She is currently a producer and casting director in commercial photography, and a member of the Three Lakes Council of Lewisboro. Jennifer lives in South Salem, NY with her husband and three children.
Waseem Noor joined the Board of Only Make Believe in 2009. He previously was Vice President of Strategy & Portfolio Analysis at IMS Consulting Group where he supported global organizations as they addressed challenges in improving healthcare. He also serves on the National Advisory Board of the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University. Dr. Noor holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in economics from Columbia University and an AB in economics from Stanford University.
Brad is the Chair of O’Melveny & Myers LLP, an internationally acclaimed law firm now in its 132nd year. Under Brad’s leadership, O’Melveny has consistently ranked among the top 10 on “The American Lawyer’s ‘A-List’” and earned perennial honors in The American Lawyer’s “Litigation Department of the Year” competition. It was named “Best Firm to Work For” in Vault’s 2017 Law Firm Rankings.
A member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, Brad serves on the boards of the Legal Aid Society, the Supreme Court Historical Society, the American Society of Legal Writers, and the New York State Bar’s Managing Partners Conference. He cofounded the Court Square Law Project, an innovative public-private collaboration that pairs recent law school graduates with clients of modest means to bring affordable legal representation to underserved communities. In recognition of his dedication to justice, Brad recently received the Human Relations award from the New York Lawyers Division of the Anti-Defamation League. Brad was also presented with the New York City Bar Association’s Thurgood Marshall Award for his role in freeing a wrongly convicted man from Georgia’s death row. He and his wife, Randi, have four children.
Amy Horrocks joined the Board of Only Make Believe in 2005. She has served as Only Make Believe’s Treasure and Board President. Amy is the Vice President for Medical Services at NYU Langone Medical Center where she is responsible for Medicine, Critical Care, Emergency Services, OB/GYN, Neurology and Epilepsy, Psychiatry, Patient Centered Care, and a variety of other departments and programs. Amy received a BS in Policy Analysis and Master’s in Health Administration from Cornell University.
Roxanne Taylor is Chief Marketing & Communications Officer of Accenture, with responsibility for Accenture’s global marketing and communications activities. Before joining Accenture in 1995, Ms. Taylor held corporate communications and marketing roles for Reuters and Citicorp. She also served in a variety of product-development, sales and marketing positions with Credit Suisse Bank and the Deak-Perera Group. Ms. Taylor holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland.
