VOLUNTEER FROM HOME!
PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19, we are limiting the acceptance of new costume pieces at this time. Please be sure to connect with a staff member to confirm.
We’re always adding fun costume ideas for our volunteers to make for children in hospitals, care-facilities, and special education centers. We have something for every level of ability. See below for some inspiring ideas and guides on how to make your very own costume give-away!
How To Get Started:
1) Pick what you’d like to make. You can decorate hats/masks or create your own capes and tabards with your sewing machine!
2) Source your own materials. Here are some go-to vendors.
Oriental Trading is a great craft resource and there are often sales. Our signature sailor hats can be purchased here, but can get pricey. Be sure to search for a coupon before purchasing.
Amazon is a good resource for purchasing smaller amounts of craft supplies. Be sure to check the shipping speed at checkout if you are hoping to get everything to you by a specific date.
Wish.com is great for unique craft items. The key here is to wait for a free shipping coupon after you sign up for emails.
Michaels is also a go-to craft store. We recommend purchasing when coupons are available. They sell Beacon’s Fabri-Tac glue, which is highly recommended because of its fusing capabilities with fabric.
3) Create your costume pieces. When you’re done, connect with the NYC or DC office to arrange a no-contact drop off.
